New Year’s Resolution: Be Pain Free 1

We are starting the New Year and with that comes New Year’s resolutions.

Did you know that the top 5 New Year’s resolutions are:

  • Lose Weight
  • Stay Fit & Healthy
  • Get Organized
  • Spend Less, Save More
  • Learn Something Exciting

That is why in January gym membership enrollments increase, exercise equipment & apparel sales increase.

What’s interesting is, according to the American Academy of Pain Medicine, pain affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined and yet being pain free doesn’t even make the New Year’s resolution top 10 list.

Back pain is the leading cause of disability in Americans under 45 years old. More than 26 million Americans between the ages of 20-64 experience frequent back pain.

It’s amazing how people learn to live with pain; pain becomes your new reality and you learn how to compensate/ overwork other parts of your body.

Many years ago I had a client that had been living with back pain for over 20 years and after his friend suggested several times to try our services he decided to take a chance. Several sessions later he called me one day and said that he was up until 3am; he said he couldn’t sleep. As soon as he said that I’m thinking, oh boy, what did I do? But, it turned out that the reason he couldn’t sleep was because for the first time in over 20 years he didn’t have back pain and he wasn’t used to it.

My point is don’t learn to live with pain.  Add being pain free to your New Year resolution list and start taking steps towards living a pain free life and doing all the activities you’ve been wanting to do.
